When Audrey DeCosta lost her husband, Dan, to COVID a little more than a year ago, her world came crashing down around her professionally as well as personally.
Audrey’s husband had been her rock. He started Salon Mimosa for her and handled the business side of the salon so she and her stylists could concentrate on being creative and demonstrate their individuality. The couple wanted their clients to feel at ease in a non-judgmental atmosphere and know they were getting the best style for the money.
When Dan passed away in December 2021, Audrey wasn’t sure what the salon’s fate was going to be. She had never run a business by herself; she’d always had Dan as her business partner. With the strength and encouragement of her family and her salon family, she started
to heal. She knew she could manage the salon successfully.
She returned to doing what she loved: making people feel great about themselves. Her stylist team (her family of four amazing women, Audrey calls them) rallied around her and so did the clients.
The stylists, Kaytlin DiBiase, Jessica Henriquez, Abbie Giannangeli, and Savannah Rice, continued their commitment to improving their skills and techniques through practice and continuing education. Their dedication paid dividends as their commitment to the industry showed in every cut, color, blowout, or extension. Customers responded in droves and Audrey credits their efforts to the salon’s success.
“I thought to myself ‘Wow” I did this’ and ‘I can do this,’” she said. “But I could not have done this without the salon team family. It’s good to be on the right track.”
Salon Mimosa doesn’t believe hair has a gender. The staff takes care of everyone’s hair who walks through the salon’s doors, and its goal is to make all clients feel special, and as though they are part of family. They offer clients the latest in trends and stay on top of industry changes so that they can respond and use new and different techniques often.
“Continuing education is a must,” Audrey said. “Through forward-thinking and continuing education, our team is committed to … providing the comfort and confidence our clients need.”
While the salon has a dedicated following and many regulars, it strongly encourages clients to prebook their time with an appointment to guarantee customers get the time and day that best fits their schedule.

Salon Mimosa uses Matrix, Biologe and Brazilian Blowout products for all its customers as well as Matrix SoColor and SoColor Sync, Pulp Riot for fashion color, the Brazilian Blowout Smoothing system, and Bellami extensions.
Audrey continues to travel in New England and beyond to beauty supply stores and other salons to teach color techniques, hair care, and to share her product knowledge with the Matrix brand. She also uses every opportunity to better herself behind the chair and behind the business desk. Her certification list is off the charts.
She believes she could not have achieved her success without the salon team, and she will always be grateful to all (her salon family and her natural family) for standing by her and offering words of encouragement.
She knows her high-end salon with a family feel would not be possible without the efforts of many. She remains grateful and committed to meeting clients’ continuing demand.
